“A Thousand Guests, a Million Fish: People, the Sea, and the Road Between”

Demachiyanagi is the final point on the “Saba-Kaido” trade route that reaches from Wakasa Bay in Fu-kui Prefecture all the way to Kyoto. The Saba Kaido was more than a transport route for fish and other goods; it was a place of exchange between people and local cultures. The DELTA / KYOTOGRAPHIE Permanent Space is located in the middle of Demachiyanagi’s Masugata Shopping Arcade, and in the past, a fish dealer used to occupy this place. In the current times and the limitations they bring for inter-personal exchange, we would like to use the memories bound to this special place and re-examine the timeless connections formed by the flux of people and goods through the works of Kentaro Suzuki and Ohji Yoshino, who each engage the topics of people and fish from their own perspective and with their artistic methods.
