Shun Kataoka "Life Works"

We are delighted to present the solo exhibition “Life Works” by Japanese photographer Shun Kataoka, winner of the KYOTOGRAPHIE International Portfolio Review 2021 DELTA Award.

“Life Works” is a series of photographs taken in a garden from 2010 until the present day. Kataoka is currently experimenting with dummy books to represent the series and its large number of photographs in the space of a single photobook.

Shun Kataoka’s solo exhibition at DELTA features a selection of his work in three phases —“Colors and shapes,” “Grandfather’s relationship with plants” and “The absence of a guiding hand”—as well as his latest dummy photobook. Kataoka noticed the gradual changes in his work while editing his photobook and preparing for the exhibition. He selected photographs that symbolize each of these three distinct periods for the DELTA exhibition.

Through his photographs, Shun Kataoka spent many years closely observing the pure and aimless vitality of plants overcoming all traces of human presence. We hope you enjoy this ambitious exhibition that aims to capture the changes and the density inherent in time’s endless passage.
