DELTA is pleased to announce the new exhibition by Canadian photographer Jon Laytner (b.1988), who is one of the selected three artists from DELTA’s Open Call for Submissions this year. This exhibition features four large format prints from Laytner’s “Normal and Boring” series.
“The number of distinct details around us at any time is staggering, and each of them have the potential to make things weird. Normally, the vast majority lay ignored along the periphery just so we can go through life without being overwhelmed. We only acknowledge a few of them at a time — things that we use, things that are in our way, things that we want, and things that are unexpected — while the rest are taken for granted or grouped in bigger, more abstract concepts like traffic or passersby. How many of those abstracted pieces would shift our sense of normalcy if noticed? As long as we have time, we will notice new things. Normalcy is constructed to protect us from the shock of the extraordinary. When it is unexpectedly unraveled, it’s the whole picture that is changed.”
