The exhibition “A Gap in the Landscape” by Japanese photographer KEITATA (Keita Kusaka) is held on occasion of the artist receiving the DELTA Award at the KYOTOGRAPHIE International Portfolio Review 2022.
KEITATA photographs so-called “gaps”—moments when people become oblivious to their surroundings (taking a nap, joyously slurping noodles or chit-chatting with friends)—and adds exquisite, witty commentary to each image. The exhibition at DELTA features a new and generous selection of KEITATA’s works to match the gallery space.
DELTA Gallery will also offer a limited amount of signed copies of KEITATA’s book “A Gap in the Landscape” (2018) for purchase. Made with recycled cardboard, each copy of this highly popular photobook is a one-of-a-kind item featuring a unique cover. We hope you will enjoy viewing the book together with the exhibited works.
KEITATA (b. 1976 in Osaka) is a copywriter, photographer, and leader of Embern, a music band that tries to summon UFOs during their concerts. In 2018, KEITATA published the photobook “A Gap in the Landscape” featuring photographs and texts about people who are momentarily unaware of their surroundings. The book has earned KEITATA critical attention in Japan and overseas, especially in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore. In 2020, “A Gap in the Landscape” won the Chairman Award at the Japan Book Design Awards for its unique design (each copy is hand-made using recycled cardboard). In 2022, KEITATA won the DELTA Award at the KYOTOGRAPHIE International Portfolio Review.
