Yuiko YAMAZAKI, Interrupted View

DELTA/KYOTOGRAPHIE Permanent Space is pleased to host Yuiko Yamazaki’s solo exhibition, Interrupted View
The two series that will be exhibited, Nonverbal and Surface, consist of clear photographic works created by combining wires, mesh, and vibrantly coloured objects found in everyday life. Using only the simple technique of adjusting the camera’s focus, Yamazaki strips away the inherent information and meanings of the subjects, inviting new visual interpretations.
Rather than questioning what the images show, these works encourage viewers to discover spaces within their ambiguity and surreal qualities, allowing personal sensations and memories to surface. The experience transcends mere visual observation, creating a dialogue that connects with individuals’ mental landscapes and memories. This approach reflects the artist’s emphasis on interpersonal communication as a core element of her creative process.
By challenging conventional notions of straight photography, Yamazaki reveals the overlooked beauty, complexity, and subtle narratives hidden within everyday life and communication. Her work offers a fresh visual experience, uncovering the stories embedded in ambiguous images.

Yuiko Yamazaki places importance on interpersonal communication as the foundation of her creative process. Her works are rooted in creating nuanced, indirect communication. Through engaging with and understanding others, she interprets the empathy within herself as a form of self-acceptance and seeks to embody this in her work. Yamazaki’s practice revolves around two key approaches: crafting compositions that highlight the aesthetic beauty of colours, shapes, and textures, and integrating these external and internal elements to create works that reflect her authentic self. Through these methods, she strives to connect with society in a way that allows her inner and outer worlds to coexist seamlessly.
